It time for an oil change and I can't get off the drain plug. The previous onwer rounded it off. I think it a 3/8 allen wrench but not sure because it has no edges now. Any ideas? I've tried several different ways to remove it but am out of ideas. I didn't try to heat it up with a torch because it didn't seem like a good idea. Thank for any help. Ken

 

I have seen this happen before, i weld nuts onto the plug then u can get a socket or wrench and break it loose..

 

Or you can turn it out with a chisel. Either way, make sure to have a new one on hand!

 

The plug has a 3/8" square hole. It may be rounded out on the outside, yet still have some flats to catch on deeper. Try a regular 3/8" square breaker bar, maybe it will work.

Of course you will have to replace it. Get something better than stock. Genosgarage has a HD drainplug as well as a couple of different qucikdrain plugs. Fram makes a quickdrain plug as well.

 

I'll try the 3/8 square end first. I hope that works becuase I might have aided in rounding it off. Then weld the nut on if that doesn't work. If that happens where is a good place to get a new drain plug?

I have the EZ-Change and it works slick. No mess just point the hose in a pail and it over. My old plug had the washer seperate from the threads.

 

Thanks everyone. I got it with a regular 3/8 drive rachet and short extention.
