All right guys, here's the deal. My local "experts" can't seem to help. I have a 2000 Dodge 2500 QC 4x4 diesel. I bought the truck in September 05. Since then, my right front brake line has rubbed through twice. It is the line that comes off of the caliper. The problem spot is where the rubber lines connects to the metal line just before it runs between the upper/lower arms. The first time I had a local hose shop rebuild the line. This time I thought I would buy a new one and see what was different. The problem is I have been to 2 dealerships, each gave me a different part number, but the hose is the same at each place. Unfortunately, it is not the right hose for my truck. The fitting that attaches to the caliper doesn't line up right, and the hose that runs from the wheel is way shorter than the one I took off. Anyway, is this a custom fix or am I doing something wrong with the install. Any input would be great, mainly because I want to fix this. Tired of driving the wife's car.

Go to your local 4X4/speed shop and see if they carry Goodridge braided steel lines. Better than stock and probably less expensive than OEM replacement.

 

I got mine from NAPA for about $25, fit right the first time. There is also a guy over on Pirate 4x4 I believe that makes custom braded stainless lines, I'll see if I can find him over there for you.

 

Thanks for the input. I tried my local Napa and they said they could get the hose for the 4x2 but not the 4x4. Still waiting on one more option before I try to go custom.

 

First thing is to find out why it's rubbing through. Do you have a lift kit, or oversize tires? Does the bracket need "tweaked" a bit? If the OEM stuff doesn't fit, it may be altered, and that may be the problem.

 

I second rc51's idea. When napa could not help me with a hose for my isolator I found a speed shop that was only 3 miles from me that made me a stainless steel hose and an adapter that worked and looks great.

 

i had a problem with a brake line that the tire was rubbing when i turned the wheel... wasn't positioned right.

 

PROBLEM SOLVED!! After much frustration, I decided to take a look under better conditions like more light and more sleep. After a brief nap under the Dodge, I discovered that the previous owner had installed the wrong line. So, after comparison to the driver's side, things are back on the road with the proper line installed. No rubbing, no leaks, no blown lines. So, thanks to everyone who put in on this. lets not rag on the previous owner to much.. sems like somthing a dealer would do also.. lets not for get the awful things dealers do somtimes!
