Lost my brakes the other day while going down a hill. The rear line split before the rear axle. I checked all of the remaining lines and it looks like they are ready to go also... ***?!?!

Any tips on where to find these lines w/o getting raped?


My truck is a 1997 Ram 2500 CTD with 115,000 miles on it.

The best tip I can give you is to go and measure the lines that you need and go to your local auto parts store and get them. Once you replaced the lines, you must bleed them. Start with the right rear, then the left rear. If you need to check with the store that you bought the lines at and see if they know where you can borrow/rent a power bleeder. That will make the job much easier.

I replaced them on my 95 before I sold it. I just went to Napa and bought a couple different lengths of tubing and replaced the entire length from the frame rail by the front wheels to the rear where it becomes soft lines again. I tried splicing in a section but my old tubing was rusted and in terrible shape and I couldn't get it to work. I lucked out and found the right combination of lenths of tubing so I didn't have to splice any pieces in. The worst part was I had to drop my my Gas tank to get to the frame rail. I ended up replacing my gas tank staps (the were pretty rusty) also. You'll also need atubing bender.

 

Just bend those babies up by yourself. Take your old line off, and bend the new one to match. I did my first set when I was 15, so I am sure you can get 'er done.

 

Looks like that's what I'll have to do. I think I'll go SS tubing to I don't have to deal with it again.
