Hard to get in gear

The last few days my truck is getting really hard to get in a gear if it is not moving. I can push in the clutch and try to get in gear but the truck will start to move before I get it in gear. It has also srtated to shudder from a take off in second and a little in reverse as I let out on the clutch. Any suggestions of what the problem may be?

Yes, most likely the pilot bearing has seized. If it is a stock clutch the center will come apart soon. It has a lot of plastic in it.

same thing happened to me...pilot bearing...had the shop put a new clutch while they were in there (was original with 160K)
If your clutch has quite a few miles on it, replace it while you are already paying for the labor to have it taken apart. (or if you're doing it yourself, it would be a lot of work for just the pilot bearing)

I put a clutch in around October. I know I put a new throw out bearing and thought I also replaced the pilot bearing but I guess it could have went bad. Sucks to pull it all back apart to replace the dang bearing.

When installing the transmission it is real easy to hit the pilot bearing cage and damage it or push it partially through the flywheel. Also the pilot is a bearing surface. The flywheel can be bored out and a ford bearing installed which is not dependant on the surface of the pilot. The local Cummins garage trashed mine on a warranty engine change. The later six speed bearing is much more stable when installed.

If it is a stock clutch there is plastic parts in the clutch hub and the bearing when seized tends to drive the truck through the hub instead of the clutch surface so the hub cannot take the torque and will break up. The LUK Progold is a much stronger disk than the stock disk.
