Question Reverse Lights OUT

Does anyone know if the computer controls the reverse lights? I had my computer reflashed with TSB 18-005-06 REV. B and the tech had to turn back on my High Idle and in doing so, turned off my Key Off power Feature and Daytime Running Lights. I also notice that my Reverse lights are now not working and was wondering if this might have been turn off as well. I can not find a fuse for this in the fuse box either. Please help.

Is it a manual transmission? I am not familiar with your truck in particular, but what I can tell you is that most manual trans have a sensor on the top of the tranny that is nothing more than a 12v switch the turns the reverse lights on when you engage the reverse gear, on a auto it is a electronic signal from a solonoid. This is pretty general throught the automotive industry.

Yes.....the switch gets its power from the TIPM - underhood fuse box. If it sees a short or excessive amperage draw, it can shut off power to the backup lamp circuit. Look at the trailer connector wires too. They can get corroded or cut causing this to happen as well. You can unhook the battery to reset the module sometimes too.

Thanks vzdude,

So if it is a fuse in the TIPM, which one is it labeled? I don't see one for the reverse lights.

In some areas yes, but vehicle electronics, no. So if unhooking the batteries does not reset the TIPM, do I have to take it to the dealer to have them reset the unit?

Aside from the high idle, the other items are controlled by the tipm & usually not affected w/ an ecm flash.Normally all codes are supposed to be erased after a flash, which will reset the tipm - if no other issues are present,so yes it would be best to take it back

Well the nightmare continues. I checked some fuses in the TIPM, pulled maybe 3 of them to check, no problems. This morning I go to start the truck and get the key halfway in the ignition and the horn goes off (constant, not on/off, on/off like the panic button). I thought I hit the panic button so I hit it again and nothing. I started the truck anyways thinking this would shut it off and the horn continued to sound. In all the horn was on for 30 to 60 seconds. My interior lights came on and stayed on during all of this comotion, and now my Door Ajar light stays on constantly and I can not changed the brightness of the dash lights without the interior lights coming on first. What gives? Does this sound like a corrupted TIPM and can this be rebooted without being replaced? Please help.

You need to head back to the dealer! Doesn't sound like an easy fix as far as us being able to walk you thru it or anything. Gonna need a Starscan and some time, but yes.....probably a failed TIPM or FCM.

The FCM is the front control module and it bolts to the side of the TIPM.

I just went out to start the truck and it seemed that everything is now ok, except no backup lights. Electrical gremlins?

The truck is now at the dealer and I will post what they find and repair. So I have a question for you guys who know more about this stuff . The high idle is controlled and turned on through the ECM and all the other features I had our turned on (daytime running lights and key off power feature) and reverse lights are controlled by the TIPM? So some day when I go to install my new PacBrake and disconnect my batteries or one day replace my batteries, will that reset the TIPM and ECM and cause these features to go away and have to be reset at the dealer?
