Hanging brake line

Went out this morning to find a hanging hose coming from brake fitting that sits on on rear axel at drivers side. This hose has a clip on it and a white male fitting in the end of it. Male fitting has a hole in the end of it.

Brakes appear to be fine. I'm guessing that this hose is just supposed to be clipped to frame above spare tire, but just want to be sure.

What is this hose, what is its purpose, and where does it go?

Thanks.

that is right where it goes, and it is the breather line for the axle, that white part is the check valve

Thanks man. One more time this site has saved me from grief. I feel alot better now.

If I blow into check valve it allows air in and then returns it back. I would think that the valve would allow flow only one way. Is it working correctly?

Thanks again.
