How many miles on the clutch? May be the rivets on the cltch disc scrapping the pressure plate or flywheel.

I'm thinking it may be a worn/dry pilot bearing. They typically growl when you slip the clutch to start out from a stop.

My 01 2500 6-speed has done it in 2nd gear (off and on) since around 80K. Dealer had no idea what it was, checked the tranny and the clutch. At 128K and it still does it, no better but no worse either. Only does it in 2nd never 1st.
