fuel shut off solenoid

My truck won't shut off without stalling in 5th gear so I know that the fuel solenoid is bad or stuck. I just removed it and tried to test it by grounding one terminal and running 12 volt to the other from the battery. The solenoid doesn't do anything but it archs like it's a solid connection between battery posts. Is my solenoid bad??? Thanks for your time.

The answer to that question would be 'YES' . One other thing to try, just to make sure, put the solenoid back in. Leave the wire off of it, and try to start the truck. If it starts, replace the solenoid.

Pull the old solenoid apart, and make sure the spring is good, and clean it up good. Hook it up to the connector with it not mounted in the truck, and manually try to work it up, and down to work it loose. Those solenoids are high.

If you need to buy a new solenoid, read this thread first.
