I agree. Metal shavings in your oil that you can actually feel are never a good thing. I'd get an oil analysis done ASAP.

Never a good thing to find metal shavings, but I would not worry about it too much. Could be just the stuff accumulated from years of settling in the bottom of the oil pan. I would do an oil analysis next oil change.

Until then...........Drive it like you stole it.

You really ought to spring for the gauges first - it's usually cheaper in the long run...

[QUOTE=ncdodgeman20]after the oil was drained i droped the plug into the buoil bucket by misstake and when i got it back out i noticed fine metal shaveings stuck to the drain plug QUOTE]

I can't belive all of you missed this I would first ask WAS there metal on the drain plug before you droped it in the oil bucket?? WAS the bucket CLEAN to start with?? if the fist answer is yes than I would look at getting an oil sample done, if the second answer in no the thats most likley where that metal came from

I know for my self I never use a clean bucket for draining my oil as I use the same drain pan everytime and then empty it in to an 55gal drum.

as for when, where, and how for the oil sample I would go to a local Diesel/Heavyequipment (ie. CAT, Cummins, and so forth) shop and get it done where they have theres done.

Occam's Razor doesn't work very well in this case, he said he didn't notice the shavings 'til AFTER he'd dropped it into the pan....
