Fluid spray!

I came back from an outing last weekend, and noticed a good sized puddle under the passender-side front of the vehicle ; A little climbing around shows the culprit to be a GOOD size spray that apparently came from the Axle Vent Tube. The rig hasn't been in 4WD since last hunting season, and we didn't do any nasty climbing on this trip, nothing that should cause an overheat or overpressure situation..?!?!
I tried a search for Axle Vent Tube on this site, but found nothing.

Is this a serious issue? I'm clearly down a bit on the fluid level now, but - is there something else I need to worry about as well? Is the vehicle driveable?

Thx -

I would double check that to make sure that is where its coming from.

the fluid level should be a bit below the hole, it does tell you in the manual as to where it should be.

Only thing I can think of is it was over filled but I would make sure thats where its coming from.

- it's pretty easy to see where the fluid is coming from, the Vent Tube is cerainly the source.

Just building up pressure from a slight plugging up - I can see how that is certainly a possibility; Would it make sense to pull the line maybe once a year and clean it out just to keep this from happening?

Thx for the input -

I've seen this happen from time to time at work, but have no real explanation for it. I have put some "anti foam" chem in a couple and perhaps it worked because I didn't hear anything after that. It is ok for the fluid level to be 1/4 below the fill plug hole too.

Most every 4wd experiences this at least once in it's life, wish I could tell you the events leading up to the cause but I can't.
Don't worry about it one bit.
Do make sure your diff is only filled to manual recommended 3/4" below the bottom of the plug.

Infidel has the key to it IMO.

Over filling diffs are the main cause of foaming and eventually seal failure, been there done that..

If your oil is old or contaminated, you can get foaming too. If you have foam in you oil an hour after you stop, it needs to be changed.
