Engine Dies When Put In Gear - Automatic

I Have A 1996 Dodge Diesel And When It Is Put Into Gear It Dies Unless You Keep Your Foot On The Acclerator Thank You For Any Help

i had a gasser do this to me once it was a little spring like piece in the transmission thats right had to talk the whole undertrans apart and replace it dont remember what it was called tho

Had a gaser do the same thing to me before. I had to put it in gear and give fuel quick or it would stall - not very easy on the drivetrain doing so. Also, it would stall out at a stop unless in neutral. It was the torque converter.

It sounds like the perfect candidate for low idle , Read YOUR ( they are different) engine data plate for correct idle rpm ( in gear with a/c on for autos)

Don't discount the torque convertor though. There are a few on here that have talked about this in the past.
Torque convertor loads up and stalls the engine.
