EGT gauge problem?

I finally got my EGT gauge back working today after installing all new lead wires, gauge, amplifierbox and having nothing work, I put in a new thermocouple today and the gauge works again but it reads low. I mean low, crusing speed its at like 325, I can go WOT for 6-8 seconds and it will hardly reach 600 degrees with the Triple dog on performance and extreme. Why am I reading so low, I only drove it 3 miles but water temp was at 200 so it had to be a little warm. It is an Isspro gauge by the way and is installed pre-turbo. When the gauge worked before after a drive it would take a while to reach 300 degrees where now it drops right down to 225 as soon as I let off the throttle. Someone please help me, I am sick and tired of dealing with this gauge.

Sounds like you got the wrong probe. There are different probes that output different voltages due to the different metals used in the probe.

Didn't solder them, and it is the right probe, Dave at Dieselmanor sent it out personally and it was the same one that came with my gauge kit.

i dont mean to high jack your thread but i cut and spiced the wire for my egt gauge and did not solder the wires, did i mess it up? i think it reads kind of high cruising about 65 mph on the highway im getting 600-800 and at WOT from a dead stop about 1250.

maybe i mess up the resistance in the wire by cutting it.

Back in a former life, I worked on small airplanes, and I've installed many an EGT sytem. The instructions were always VERY specific about coiling, within a certain diameter range, any left over wire INSIDE the cabin rather than shortening it. Once upon a time I could tell you about the different junctions used and how they work, but life goes onward, bloowey, and so do the brain cells. Don't use it, don't retain it, but it's probably still in there SOMEWHERE. Hmm... zinc-inconel was one of them.

ISSPRO uses a proprietary probe, and it must never have the wires cut. ISSPRO has an excellent web site and a great help team. Just get your gauge information to them and they will provide you with the proper thermocouple.
