If your truck has a tach watch it when you are speeding up. If your trans is slipping right when it goes to shift you will see the tach jump up then back down. If the tach does not jump up and just goes up with a normal increase the drops right off when the trans shifts your ok.

and when it gets really bad it will be almost like revving in neutral, and then it will catch.

You should be able to feel it in the seat of your pants if you pay close attention, a slight power variation (catches.....slips.....catches) Also you will notice a significant increase in Noise and vibration with no increase in speed as we are used to with the Cummins. Another real easy way id to pull your Tranny dipstick and smell it. If smell burned and has brown tinge, she's too late and you will soon be walking.

Another small piece of advised would be to have the transmission filter changed - not sure if/whent the last time was that you had it done but since I have already taken out one tranny, I will be servicing the trans twice per year. And I will not go to one of those 5 minute Lube shops either. Take it to a transmission shop for all maintanance as they will be able to detect a potential issue long before it happens.
