Drilled into Manifold Splitter

Hi there, I went to put in my pyrometer probe and I drilled right in the center of the manifold elbow and I drilled just to the left of the splitter with the drill hole half on the splitter and half not, how should I plug this while keeping the manifold on, with a weld, or a bolt? what should I do?

Bummer. I'd say run the drill in far enough so you can get the tap in there and run a 1/8'' pipe plug into the hole.

I'd just tap the hole and thread in a plug. I would NOT use a bolt. It may be too long and hang down into the pathway.....

ya that is what I was thinking, just drill it deep enough to put the probe in, then tap it and just put the probe in, I don't think it will affect the EGT reading much at all, the only thing is weakening of the manifold.... think it would be ok?

No. I would not put the prob into a hole where it will be up against a wall or divider. You'll get erroneous readings. Put a plug into the hole you made by mistake and redrill a new hole in the proper location and pu the prob there..........

Why not try putting the probe in. If it does give erroneous reading, plug and re-drill. If not, you're all set.

how would he know what an erroneous reading is? I say tap it, plug it, and drill it in the right spot. the plug probably won't even extend into the exhaust path
