Drained Tranny - Now slipping!

This past Friday I drained the tranny and replaced the filter but did not adj the bands as I couldnt russle up an inch lb torque wrench. Now the bad boy is slipping and does not display 1st gear when engaged. It goes in to first but does not show it on the dash. Any ideas why it would now be slipping after changing the fluid? It is much worse when not in tow haul mode. I didnt touch anything after pan removed except the two bolts holding the filter in place. Tranny has been refilled to "max" on dipstick with ATF+4; no codes. I have an appt for service on friday and will put factory wheels/tires on prior.
Thanks,
Judson

Just checking the simple stuff first.
Did you refill to max AFTER shifting through the gears manually and checking it in neutral while running?
If not, fluid will be low and could cause slipping when cold.
(I'm assuming you check tranny fluid on 3rd Gen same as on 2nd Gen?)

yes sir; went through the gears manually, got the tranny up to operating temp as per the service manual and then continued to add fluid as it idled in neutral until max reached. BTW the service manual states only need 4 quarts - baloney. I put the old fluid in empty qt bottles to see how much i used and I filled 5 up to the top not to mention the 3 fully saturated towels I had from wiping up the garage floor! Glad I have my garage sealed.

Figured you did...just every once in a while someone isn't aware of the procedure!

Mine takes 6 qts...if just changing the pan fluid ... so sounds about right.
Actually 10 qts, but I have a Mag Hy-Tec deep dish pan.... which adds 4 extra qts.

Good Luck!

Thanks RJ. When you change yours do you notice a significant amount of "stuff" on the magnet in the pan?

First time at 20,000 miles... on factory tranny... yes. No shinny shavings but lots on metalic 'mud'.

With DTT... and drag racing... I change pan fluid (half of total) every 20,000 miles as overkill protection of my investment! See almost nothing in pan.
