Dead Vp44 ?
Dead Vp44 ?
Installed a comp on a 1999 automatic dodge today with 144,030 miles on the clock didnt make it out of the garage and it was blowin white smoke and missin to beat all at around 2000 rpm or anything over an idle. Unhooked everything disconected batteries for about an hour hook batteries back up no better with comp unhooked still miss and smokes and has no power. Is the vp dead or could anything else have died. No way to check codes tried thhe ignition on off trick. Any help appreciated.
Looks like your LP is. Might want to change it and see what happens. I wouldn't run out and buy a new VP without checking out everything. If you're sticking with a stock LP, hook yourself up with one of the campaign pumps for $70. Comes in a kit from Cummins. Do a search and you'll find the part number. I got mine for sixty something plus tax.
It is just funny that truck ran fine until we installed comp now it misses and smokes like hell white smoke. Didnt even drive it with comp just started it and it was smokin and missin.
I had a simular problem when installed the comp. i neglected to tighten the ground on the comp.
Ran like crap and set a couple of codes.
I found it and fixed it had the codes cleared and all is well. Hope it turns out to be something simple like this for you.
I know when in a panic situation we all neglect to look for the obvious or simple things that might be wrong.
best of luck
