dead pedal

My truck has had this issue for some time now. Lately it seems to be worse. The truck starts up and idles fine, go to back out of the drive way and nothing, restart the truck and fine, head up the road and have to keep turning the key on and off. Clears up for a while then seems to come back. I was noticing on the high way it seems to pull fine when till i reach a steady speed, then after being there it just falls flat and i start loosing power and boost falls. turn the key of and on floor it and boost gauge climbs and truck takes off.

The VP44 will give you “Dead Pedal” when the timing for fuel injection cannot be reached. The fueling computer on top of the VP receives a timing command from the ECM. Inside the VP is a toothed gear that measures the timing to make sure it agrees with the ECM command. If it does not, the ECM will ignore the TPS (throttle) signal and drop to idle. By turning off the ignition and then back on, the ECM gets reset and the TPS is active again. When you check codes you will probably find the infamous P0216.
Good luck.

My truck is doing the same thing. It has been for the last 6 months and the dead pedal event is getting more frequent. I've pulled the infamous P0216 DTC; cleared it and it re-appears. I use the 2 cycle oil - 1oz per gallon of diesel routine and it hasn't helped. A remanufactured VP44 is in my trucks' near future.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge, you need min. of 7psi at WOT. The stock lift/transfer pumps are notorious for failing. The VP44 is a good pump, but quickly falls prey to insuficiant fuel pressure, (lack of lubrication). Sorry to say this but, sounds like injection pump replacement is eminent. Upgrade your transfer pump at the same time to at least a pusher type, or better yet, Air Dog, or FASS system. Holley also makes some pusher pumps. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
