Dead Gas Pedal

Here is one I need help with. First I am a tard when it comes to my truck so if you you know what is wrong try and tell it in the simplest way. Thanks. On to the problem. I was driving down the street at 35 when the truck just died. I got it restarted but the gas pedal just goes to the floor and feels like there is no tension. When I press the gas when the truck is running nothing happens at all. I traced the gas pedal cable out it appears to be fine and working, no broken cable and things are moving. That is it. Thanks for all the help.

first of all welcome fatkid. list the details of your truck and I'm sure several will post w/ideas on things to check. A ctd will run if it has air, diesel and compression. Start w/checking to make sure you have clean filters and fuel.

You are missing some important info here - what year is your truck? Do you have any performance mods installed?

Its pretty tough to offer you any help without this info.

Sorry guys. I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 12v Diesel. No mods just stock. Was running great till this happened. There is 147000 miles on it. Just changed the air filter the other week so I think that should be fine.

Now that I can see things in the light I noticed that where the gas pedal cable goes that big spring thing, again I am a dumb *** when it comes to vehicles, I noticed a plastic ball socket hanging off the bottom when the gas pedal is pressed. No cable attached to it though so I have no idea where it goes or where it went.

I had that happen twice. Once was a bad lift pump, once was a bad APPS sensor.

Turns out it was nothing big. I fixed it. It was the link to the throttle that happened to loosen itself and come apart. I can't describe in detail but where it connects to some big spring thing from the pedal cable, underneath it was a ball joint that has threads so I screwed it back together checked other bolts and screws around the area and voila the **** things running. If details are wanted or needed I can describe it in my uneducated on anything vehicle related way. Thanks for all the help you all rock.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I believe there was a recall for the throttle cable. Any idea if thats been done?

Nevermind - it was only for 94-96 trucks:

I heard about the recall. Thank you for letting me know the years. I guess I don't have to check into it now.
