Control arm bolt/Caster or Camber?
Control arm bolt/Caster or Camber?
OK, the two lower contol arms where they attach to the front axle have a cam bolt type deal with a few marks in a semi circle patern over the top of the bolt. There are no numbers on these marks so I dont know how to tell what setting they are at. The driver side bolt has a mark on it that alligns with the marks over the bolt, it is pointing straight forward at 9 o'clock if you will. The passenger side mark is alligned at between 12 o'clock and 1 o'clock. Is this too much difference between the two? Could this be causing all my problems with shaking while braking? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
So regardless of what is causing my shaking are these marks correct. I have seen setting posted on here but dont know if this is what they were talking about setting. Also, I have seen more than one post stating that if my brake pedal did not pulse during braking and shaking then it was NOT the brakes. I was under the impression that if you feel it in the steering wheel its the front and if you feel it in the pedal it is the rear. Maybe Im wrong. All I know is the truck shakes and someone said camber so I looked at those and figured I would ask.
You did say in your post that it shook during braking , the statment in your 2nd post was 1/2 right, if you feel it while braking [ lite braking like slowing down on the exit ramp] thats the begining , as it it gets worse then also braking hard it will shake, if its shaking in the steering wheel then its usually ft. tires out of balance, going out of round [ tread sepperation ] or wear , then maybe ft.
end stuff, most alinment shops will do a free check, if it does'nt seem like the stuff above.
the marks are like I said a refrence, they do not have to match , the ft. end is adjustable to fine tune , for the wear & tear and they cann't make it perfect .

Well I went to a tire shop yesterday and had a rotation and they checked my tires for ballance and said all was in order other than running too much pressure in the tires. So since that has been done and all checks out I guess that gets me back to front rotors. I did remove the rear drums and saw grooves in the drums and on the shoes. Can I have drums turned without worry unlike front rotors that warp soon after turning? I planned on replacing both front rotors and servicing the rear brakes if they could be turned. Just ready for a smooth ride. Thanks for the input.

Somewhere on this site there is a link to the "correct" Dodge 4X4 alignment settings. I can't remember exactly where anymore but the guy who wrote it is some sort of engineer or Dodge factory mechanic or something like that. Anyway I believe he says there that the 2 marks are supposed to match side to side; if not someone forced the axle into place during assembly.
Don't know if this will help but maybe it will jog somebody's memory and they can post the link I'm talking about. Maybe try searching for front end info posts??
