Constant brake noise

I just noticed this yesterday while going through a drive through. The noise will somewhat go away when i apply the brakes but when im even idling forward i get this horrid scratching type sound that is very high pitched for about half the rotation of the left front wheel. Anyone know what this is?

IT sounds like the wear indicator , meaning you brake pads need replaced. pull the front wheels off and you will see a little metal tab on one end of the brake pad , when the pads wear down , it touches the rotor , and squeals , telling you that you need new pads. You can bend it out of the way until you get a new set of pads.

warning tab on the pads are touching the rotor telling you it's time to replace the brakes or it's a stone caught in the pad. Either way, remove the wheels and check.

Have a buddy to listen outside the truck, sometimes the back brakes will fool you into thinking the noise is in the front. I use Autozones Carbon metallic pads, no noise no dust, usualy run about $40.00 for the set. Back brakes can be "el cheap o's" usualy cost $14-$25. Easy to do, just be sure to request some caliper slider grease to help with the noise and keep the pads from binding. Take your time and yes a case of beer will help!!
