Choke cable to replace run solenoid

Has anyone used a choke cable in place of the run solenoid on a 1996 2500 Ram before? Bolt holes and housing on injection pump are damaged so I cannot mount the bracket to the injection pump. New solenoid and bracket 617 dollars! Plus drilling and tapping new threads in housing for solenoid bracket. Cheaper fix is to put a choke cable and bracket, anyone that has done it that way or might have picture of install would be helpful. Work truck and low on cash right now. Thanks

Never done that, but do not see why not. Most older tractors were like that. Would suggest leaving about a 1/8" gap between the **** and dash end of the cable so that you know for sure that when you push it in and it springs back that little bit that the shut off is fully open. Leave enough slack in the cable to allow for engine movement. Don't forget, that for these cables to work properly that both ends of the outer casing need to be firmly secured.

That's what I thought since the high dollar solenoid is just too expensive right now. Might try wrecking yard for part but might just be wasting my time I think. Truck is running just have to get out and push down on lever to shut engine down right now.

Solenoid is $119 here> http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm

The bracket isn't listed but I know other people have bought them from Larry for a good price.

International Harvester dealership is your friend, they did it on their tractors, they sell the whole shebang, brackets and all, makes for a very nice, professional job. There are several threads on here about it.

FWIW the sol is under $150 online lots of places, including fleebay just make sure it is the correct sol- there are several that look the same but are internally different or mount slightly different.
