Broken Timing Pin
Broken Timing Pin
Ok Im adjusting the valves and used the pin at TDC for #1. Get through the first half of the job and go to pull the timing pin back out because it says "Engine Damage Will Occur" if I try to turn the crank with the pin engaged. Well the pin wont move, so I start prying on it. You guessed it, the outer half of the pin broke off. Now what? Can I just rotate the engine and break the rest of the pin off and go about the job? What will happen if the pin is sheared by the gear? I just dont want to break my truck for little piece of plastic. Thanks.

Look up a post I did a couple of months ago about my broken timing pin. I got the steel locking ring out with a hooking type screwdriver. It came with my pick set from snap-on. I got it in fairly easy with a deep socket that is the same diameter as the pin. Best of luck. Doug
Did some reading on this site and another well known Dodge diesel site, decided to just break it off. The remainder of the pin did not fall out so I have no oil leak and if I ever have to pull the pump I will buy another pin. As for now it is fine.
