Timing without timing pin?

While setting the valves a few days ago I discovered that the PO had broken the timing pin, is there a way to set the pump timing without the pin? I have the dial indicator, adapter and puller, just no way to locate TDC.

Use the drop valve method to find TDC and mark the balancer. You'll need a dial and mag base for this.

I've yet to find a timing pin that's accurate enough to set the timing, good enough for valves though.

You'll find instructions on the drop valve method in the engine section here> http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-tech-articles/

Thanks, I'll try this method.
