broken radiator drain plug

broken radiator drain plug

just like the title says... was flushing the radiator and the drainplug just spins now... any quick fixes? or do i need a new radiator... stranded in the driveway with no wheels to get anywhere!!! please help

Never messed with it. Is it NPT threads? Can you just put a plug in it?

ive heard some say the plug will come all the way out.. however mine wont come out and it wont catch the threads to go back in... i wasnt even hard on it or anything... just stopped catchin...

Doesn't help now, but for future reference it looks like most guys are just pulling the lower hose.

Well I suppose if it's just toast as a temporary fix you could add a piece of hose a couple clamps and a bolt or whatever you got to seal it up.

I stripped the plug on my CJ a number of years ago - just JB welded it in place & no problems in the 5 or so years since then. I usually just pull the lower radiator hose....its faster anyways.

You can get a replacement from NAPA. Trying to find the part number and if I do, will post it. There was a thread about this a few weeks ago that had the number.

well i fixed it. guess the plug decided to just give up and thread back in. thanks for the thoughts and suggestions... itll be the last time i use that plug.
