Brake Light
Brake Light
My left brake light doesn't work. I don't know how long this has been going on, but a friend pointed it out to me a couple of days ago. The left turn signal works, the running light works.
I took it to the Dodge Dealer here in Brownsville, TX. The tech changed the bulb. It didn't work. He changed the plate that holds all 3 bulbs, it still didin't work. He tested the plug, got power at the correct plug blade, plugged it back in, and it still didn't work.
Hmmm.
We are leaving tomorrow, for home, but I am PO'd. I will stop in OKC, and get them to check it out. Any ideas?

Loose connection/breaking wire.
It allows enough current through to show voltage on the meter, but not enough to power a bulb.
To test this, do a mock hook up of a bulb through probes into the socket, this will allow live voltages to be read.

Will check it out at OKC. Brfand new truck, not even 10,000 miles on it.
Thanks!
And PChouinard has a really good point, if they try to pull the crimper out, grab it and do something to them with it that I don't want to post about. Those will eventually fill up with sand/dirt/and WATER, then corrode the wire and the connector, and the wire several feet back into the insulation, if not more. It is then very difficult to fix properly.
The best fix is a new wire (harness), but a properly soldered and sealed joint is considered essentially the same, and I would accept.

I would love to get a new truck because they couldn't fix a brake light. As it is I am not supposed to operate on the road, but the trailer brake lights (all the lights) work, and I won't unhitch until I get home. As it is, this is a ticketable problem, so I am saving the work sheets as I go. I am going to stop in AlbeQ, and let the Dodge dealer try it there. Then Las Vegas, then Reno, then home, and let the guys over in Klamath Falls try.
Anyway, thanks, and ADMIN:
you can move this if you want, no longer an emergency, just an irritation.

ok, beleive it or not, the idjit in Texas brought a bad bulb out, to replace my original. That's why he had poswer to the plug, but nothing when he put in the bulb. the guys at Lithis in Klamath Falls changed the bulb, and 20 seconds later I was out of there. Brother.
