brake light and abs light

wondering if anyone has any suggestions on this My abs light is on all the time regardless of what I do. When I got the truck the brakes were a little funny and the brake light was on all the time so I bled the brakes including the antilock as the manuel said now the brakes are really good but the abs light is on and the brake light will not come on until I hit 30 mph anything below that and the light does not come on I read some where that It might need the brake light switch adjusted so i done that and it did not help. Does anyone know if the speed sensor on the tranny has anything to with this? Or any ideas on what it could be?
Matt

I had a similar problem on my 95. It turned out to be the vacuum hose from the block to the master break cylinder. Hose was old and would collapse causing a restricition right where it connected to the block.

I had mine replaced at the dealer but I think this would be an easy do it yourself project. Worth a look anyhow.

Good luck

Yes, the replacement hose took care of both problems.

Seems like there was a TBS out about this problem. It was focusing in on how the lines could get corrosion on them causing this problem. My mechanic also said that there was some sort of sensor back in the rear end that could be going bad.

Hope this helps
Grampaw Bill

Re:brake light and abs light

on the abs system there is a speed sensoe on each wheel equipped with antilock-the sensor tells the controller that a wheel is locked and allows it to unlock it by transferring brake pressure to the other wheel and reservoir--if ane of these sensors is bad it will tell the abs that a wheel is continually locked and therefore throw the light on

Another culprit - clean out the connector to the reluctor on the rearend. If mud, water, crud gets inside the connector it can cause intermittent contact and the ABS controller thinks there is a problem. Since your brakes work it is probably just a bad sensor or connection somewhere. Good luck. Let us know what it turns out to be.

Re:brake light and abs light

Just wanted to let everyone know I got it fixed it was the sensor in the rear end. I did figure out you can check these with an ohmmeter I set mine to 2000k and disconnected the sensor and jacked up the rear of the truck and put it in neutral be sure to block the front wheels and then touch the contacts on the sensor and have some one rotate the wheels and your reading should change,I tested all three this way and the rear gave no reading at all. So it got replaced and the lights went out. Matt
