we loosened the injector lines at the head and get fuel out of 2 some out of a 3rd and nothing out of the others. How much must we bleed out before it’s enough. Starter is about to burn up. It’s a 2002 and we replac3d lift pump with a Fass system and it is running and we bleed it to the injector pump. It fires a couple of times when we let off the on key then won’t do it. Do we keep bleeding the injector lines?

 

There was a edge ez connected so we removed it and hooked back up stock and tried to start now no power to anything anymore. Previously had codes 1988 and 1989,cleared them and removed edge ez and tried to start now no power, no crank nothing, like main fuse or power blown. Ok editing this ...found alternator diodes went to ground,dead short,will instal tomorrow

Ran into a diesel mechanic at auto parts he says we have to start with bleeding the farthest injector from the pump or it won’t build enough pressure to fire the other injectors. #6 is tuff to get too. Is this right?

 

Go to bluechip diesel and look at their VP44 diagnostics.....if the IP isn't working you won't build pressure

 

No, that is wrong. I have bled countless ones and never cracked more than the first 3 Injectors.

Thank you pat Daley, I agree, after further research and talking to blue chip diesel I’m convinced the codes are confirming the death of the vp44. Now trying to decide if I want to do the pump myself for $1000 or pay a shop $2000 to do it. Never done one before so don’t want to make any mistakes.

 

Reasonably simple, just make sure you pay attention to the key in the shaft, it is how the pump is "timed" and is individual to the pump, needs to be installed in the correct direction, other than that, it is a straight swap out, pull the Injector lines, do not bend them at all.

Oh yea, and be ready to jump and think you busted the thing when the gear finally lets loose on the pump. You will swear you just broke the thing in two from the sound, but it is just the gear releasing from the tapered shaft.

 

Thanks for your input, we ordered a new pump. Going to do it ourselves. It’s my sons truck, we are also thinking of doing injectors while it’s apart as it’s got 200k miles on it

 

Not sure how this guy could have been a diesel mechanic. Each and every diesel engines that uses an injection pump with injection nozzles has equall lengths in each of its injection lines. Their would not be one closer than the other from the pump.

 

I assumed by what he said that he was a diesel mechanic but it just may have been my assumption, but he had more experience than I did and I welcome any knowledge I can get. People like you and others here are a great help and I sincerely appreciate yours and their input.
