Question bad lift pump ??????????

. Changed my fuel filter yesterday and fogot to pour diesel fuel into filter boal. I had to pull it off and fill, and then crank a little and it started. Runs fine now. My dodge guy says my lift pump is going bad and I need a 600.00 dollar retro-fit to put fuel pump in fuel tank. I got to pull horses to Oklahoma to morrow. Any advice????????????? My truck is Dodge 3500, 98 and half 24v.

Without a fuel pressure guage there is no way to know if the LP is working.

Do a search and you'll have hours of reading. The short version is get an incab fuel pressure guage, and replace the stock LP with a FASS II.

Whats your fuel pressure gauge say??You do have a gauge, right!
Without a gauge and low fuel pressure you will ruin your injection pump!

Why waste good $$$ on the cheap stocker? At least get the new version at Cummins for $65. And get a gauge!!! Most vendors will overnight you a new pump!

If you find out it is a bad LP, let me know. There is a shop in Rapid City SD. that has the older style LP's. They only have a few left. I bought one there a month ago and paid $150 I think. The name of the shop is: Rapid Diesel. 605-348-8360. Aftermarket companys are cheaper then going the new route also.
