check the check valve ,it is in the banjo bolt where the return line leaves the IP. there is a spring loaded check valve inside the bolt.$40.00 at dealer. MY 99 ctd runs better than ever now.a new IP will fix this too, of corse it will have a new check valve(several told me that my IP was toast).dealer was one of them.

Yeah,I think that you may be right, that will be the first thing I check next time...I installed a one way valve in front of the IP,so fuel could not go back, and tryed to start it,and It did'nt work,so I hope I did not change the IP instead of the $40 check valve (thanks for the info...hope you were wrong!)

Sounds like you are getting air in the fuel somewhere. With the injectors cracked (btw: cracked means pretty darn loose, just not the main torque taken off the large nuts on the head), is any fuel dribbling out onto the head?

The reason I ask, is after reading the procedures on here several times, my 1st fuel filter change scared the bejeesus out of me because I couldn't get my truck started. I did the bump (engage starter very quickly) at least 10 times and then attempted starts about 10 times (with plenty of cool down time). Eventually I cracked 1 and 3 (at the same time) and cranked the heck out of it (within ranges, no more than 15 second crank time with appropriate cool down time for the starter). Eventually fuel started to dribble out of the injector lines, then bang she fired (then it starts to squirt out like crazy)!

So what I'm saying is, maybe a few more tries with the injectors cracked? The worst that happens is you draw your batteries down or make a mess with diesel.
