98 24v ram dead wont start

98 24v ram dead wont start
went out yesterday morning to start.fired up ran for 3 sec died.engine keeps cranking,but nothin.i installed edge chip about 3 weeks ago fuel presure seemed weak to me(im new to the diesel thing)ran at 10psi but when got in the throttle it would drop to 1-3 psi.when trying to start now it says 1-2 psi. any ideas would help thanks

Just happened to me. Your VP44 injector pump is toast. Sorry.
Get a new lift pump also.

thanks.is there a way to test injector pump to see if it is bad or there is no need to do that.and i will take advice and change both.do u know if it is easy to change them or have someelse do it.looked earlier for step by step directions to do it but no luck. thanks again

There are a number of issues that you should consider before jumping to a pump or lift pump failure conclusion.
If the weather is below 20 degrees, you need to make sure you are not dealing with gelled fuel or ice crystals in the screen at the tank pick-up, or in the filter.
If you have ruled out any obstructions from cold weather and untreated fuel, then look at your lift pump. Even with a failed VP44 injection pump the lift pump should be putting out between 5 and 7 psi at cranking. If it is not, then you have identified one problem as the lift pump. Fix that before moving to another.

no the check engine light is not on.it has been below 20 (im in mass) i will check more into today its about 50 so if there was a gelling it should be gone today.how hard is it to check the screen on tank pick up. and thanks again the more ideas i can get the better.

just went outside fooled around with it.put jumper cables on it.still nothin.then i CLEANED THE BATTERY CABLES AND THE **** THING STARTED UP.any ideas why would really help me from scratching my head. but now the check engine light is on.(is this because i disconnected the batteries) thanks
