2000 24v wont start

I have a 2000 Cummins 24v 4x4 6speed. yesterday while driving it stalled out, i pulled over, it started right back up, and i drove about 300 feet down the road and it stalled again, it would not restart. i had it towed home and last night a few friends and i messed around with it some. short story is, the lift pump was not working properly. i installed a new one today, primed the system by bumping the starter and letting the pump run, checked the valve on the side of the injector pump and it had pressure, still no start. cracked the lines free at the injectors and had a friend crank it over and they also had pressure. im confused, and need help. the truck is bone stock and has under 100,000 miles on it. any input is much appreciated. thanks guys.

Your VP44 is probably dead, but in the off-chance it survived running without a lift pump, check for codes: Turn the key from off to run (not start) three times, leaving it in the run position on the third turn; any codes will appear on the odometer display and will usually start with the letter "P". When there are no codes left, it'll display "P-DONE".

Tell us what (if any) codes you find.

I'll also say this: my 2002 was a PITA to bleed when I got air in the lines, and it took quite a bit of cranking (and fuel spraying everywhere) before I could get it to run. You might just need to work on bleeding the lines a little longer...

Try only loosing three lines, ever other and trying it. Mine is also a PITA to start after running out of fuel.

the odd thing to me is it was running fine, the lift pump sounded normal, it had no loss in power. i just checked the codes and the only one that came up was p1693. and i just did a quick search and it says something about Turbo Charge Control Circuit Malfunction. im not quite sure what that means. i also saw that i may need an obd scan tool to completely figure it out. any more help is greatly appreciated boys!

a friend of mine had the same thing happen to his and it was throwing codes for the injector pump, lift pump and the turbo charge control, ecm, pcm and a few more, it would died and then you could crank on it for a bit, it would start drive some and it would die again, repeat. his ended up being one of the one of the prongs in the wiring harnes to the ecm was loose. Cranking it would vibrate it back into place and driving it would work it out were it would loose connection. kind of a old ball thing.

the dealership literally had to trace every wire in the truck it took them 3 days, and they only charged him $200 to fix it, thats alot of shop time the could have tacked on! thanks greenville chysler!

p1688 and p0252 means the vp 44 has to be replaced
