Terrified - popping out of the intake

Help, my engine just started making a loud audible popping loudly right before I pulled into my driveway a few minutes ago. I removed the filter and had my neighbor start the truck and I put my hand in front of the turbo and could feel it popping air backward out of the intake. It seems like only 1 cylinder is doing it. I think that it could be a broken valve spring and it's pushing all of the compression back out (large cylinder of air being forced through a small hole = pop!). What do you guys think?

quit running the motor and pull the valve covers to see what you can see

Yeah, I didn't run the engine any more than I had to. Pulling valve covers is my 1st step, doing so right now. Stand by.

Madhat, that was my other guess, but like I said it sounds like it's only 1 cylinder. I have the VCs off and don't immediately see the issue, but I'm currently loosening the lash adjusters because i know that a broken spring is often difficult to see. I will check that next if I don't get anywhere with the VC's removed.

Is the gear just a press fit on the cam, or is there a key?

Well my prayers were answered. The lash adjuster on the intake valve of cylinder #5 came loose, backed off, and allowed the push rod to rest on the rocker itself instead of on the ball joint. I have some spare push rods sitting here, but since it's cylinder #5 you can't get it out because the cowl is in the way, so I was praying it wasn't bent, and somehow it wasn't! I did a valve adjustment while I was in there (kinda had to because I loosened them all) and put it back together and it runs like a champ!

Thanks all for the rapid replies!

They come out. There's a plastic plug above #5 and #6, take the plug out and the push rods will go up into that area and you can take them out that way.
