98 24V Auto Trans Slipping
98 24V Auto Trans Slipping
I have a 98 24V with Automatic Trans. 67,000 Miles on vehicle. Transmission slips at 45-50 MPH 1600 RPM Jumps to about 2000. Does this both in and out of Overdive. Never plowed, no heavy towing at all. Is this a matter of band adjustment?
Side note: If left parked for 3-4 days takes 30 seconds(or less) for trans to engage, assume this is leak down or sign of larger problem.
Also can't figure out exactly what the warranty term was for the 98's. Any help greatly appreciated.
Note: Had a flat tire PRIOR to slippage. Put spare on(others were worn) and just replaced all 4 today. Could computer have sensed a difference?

Not to question your mechanical intelligence, but have you checked the level of your tranny fluid? When was the last time you changed it or had the system flushed? Not trying to put you down, but thinking of the simplist things 1st, then we can take it from there.
The time to engage is no big deal. All that happened is the fluid drained from your torque converter. It's perfectly normal. I'd change the fluid and see if that helps. If that doesn't, then definately a band adjustment.
If it is going in and out of lock-up, then it usually is an issue with electrical noise. It needs a filter. Call DTT , they have them.
As far as the slow starts, it is correct that the converter drains back after a long sit. Ussually over night. Start the truck and put it in neutral for 30 seconds.
Sometimes fresh fluid slows the drain back problem.
It is caused by several issues, one which is common is the converter bushing to snout clearance is a little high. Don't worry about it.
