93 won't idle...

A friend just called me and said his 93 CTD won't return to idle and it doesn't seem to be a linkage prob. I told him I would try and find something out for him. He is kind of stranded and I'm at work so is there anything he can do or look at or at least a place to start??

It's a 93 Dodge CTD auto trans 4WD

Thanks for any help, I will be looking here for an hour or so.

when you say it WONT return do you mean it hovers at a higher idle, if so he may be near Runaway.

Yea, he said it was running around 2K when it was supposed to be idling.

If he hasn't been messing with the power screw then something's broke inside the pump.

It was a linkage problem. I'm not real familiar with the 1rst Gen. trucks but he said the linkage was spinning on the pump shaft, he just tightened it up and was good to go.
Sounds like he could have caused damage by driving it home running no less than 2K RPM with all the start and stops, especially being an auto.

Thanks Guys

The only thing he could have hurt was the trans. The engine doesn't care.
