6 spd. clutch contamination and failure
Need smeone with experience with 6 speed manual to help !!
Hey I'm new to DTR. I have an 04 2500 6 speed manual transmission . I had to replace the clutch last year as debris had gotten under the clutch fingers and it could not engage. Now I am on vacation and had to drop my truck at dealer to get it repaired again. Drove through a rain storm and as I shifted gears it slowly started to slip more and more. Any one have an idea how the debris gets in?

Sound like clutch wear or perhaps oil from a leak.
Last time this happened I had just returned from working a winter ice road and during the thaw drove through a lot of water with moss from the swamps the road passed through. Later after the warmer weather dried it out the clutch was packed with dried moss under the clutch fingers (at the base) I just can't figure how the debris and water gets in??? There was enough that the clutch could not engage. each time I shifted it got worse till it sliped so bad I could not drive. opened it up and the clutch wear surface was OK.

Sorry to hear your problem and hope one of the experts can help. Not that this helps, but I have talked with several people with 125K miles and up who are still on their original clutch (all towing) so there must be something weird going on with yours. Keep us posted.

Well I just got my truck back. The clutch fingers were immobilized as debris had built up under their base preventing it from engaging. DC says that there are vents that allow the clutch to vent ??? I had them plug them up and they think it should be fine now. DC took pictures of the contamination as they had not seen this in the past. I guess I will park before the thaw next year. Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for the final post. Guess you just have been driving through stuff that most of us never get to go through.

There is a gap at the bottom of the bellhousing, but I guess I'm confused as to how stuff would have gotten up there?
Anyway, glad to hear the dealer took care of you.
