2500 1997 4wd truck LEAKY AXLE front SEALS

I can't figure out how to remove the carrier assy from the front diffential. I have tried a come along and the drivers side seams to move but the passengers side does not. Any sugestions. original problem was LEAKY AXLE SEALS on the front. We are 80% into the removal phase.

you need to remove both the left axle shaft, and the right intermediate shaft (after removing the right axle shaft).

I must have lost this part of the post. We can see all the way through when the carrier was removed last time. We don't think there is an intermediate shaft. What are a couple ways to identify it? Just to be sure I have given enough info we have the left and right shafts out. The left side moves pretty easy but you have to use a pry bar.

And I am very grateful for any replies. I just don't remember an intermediate shaft last time.

Thanks again,

Tony

believe Kerry, there is an intermediate shaft on the right side, you can pull it out by going through the CAD hole in the right axle housing. if you haven't bent the intermediate shaft already, you are well on your way to doing so, with using a come-along. This will cause whole other worlds of grief in the future.

Take the CAD vacuum motor off of the axle housing, and just use a large pair of pliers to move the intermediate shaft out toward the right hand steering knuckle.

Good luck with it.
