2003 DRW 3500 dies but restarts???

My buddy is in Iraq and his wife called me to tell me that the truck is acting funny. She says that when she drives it and comes to a stop it will climb in RPM and die but then starts back up. The truck has been driven about once a month since March. First thing I asked her was did you put gas in it and she said nothat she just got done leaving the disel pumps but it was doing it on the way to and with some driving around it did this 3 times. There are no warning lights on the dash. I plan on looking at it and driving it. Do you check it the same way for codes by turning the key 3 times like 2nd gen or no. help me out guys thanks in advance

Just guesses here, but could the fuel pump be failing? At 113K miles if still the stock pump she has seen more than fair mileage on it. Otherwise maybe a failing injector pump? Like I said, just guessing but if you can get her to rapidly turn on & off the key 3 times and leave it in the on position last turn it should blink out the codes if any in the odometer position. Might give you a little idea of what is actually going on.

Sounds like a lift pump. With over 100k or 5 years, pay to have the in-tank pump conversion done at the dealership or install a aftermarket pump like a Raptor 100. I would recommend fixing it soon before the truck is disabled. My lift pump failed on the last day of a vacation and cost me more in time/money than an aftermarket kit would cost.
