HELP! Stuck in Mammoth Lakes

My son is stuck up in Mammoth Lakes, CA north of Bishop; his clutch master cylinder ripped off - the plastic tabs broke off and it came loose. If anyone has an idea or knows where there is someway to get hold of that part, please PM for his cell phone - Thanks! John's dad

edit- Ok, hopefully I didn't break any rules but I posted it in #24 for the So Cal group to see.

Hey John's Dad- it's on the main page down under National/Regional Groups. I did copy your post there. Being it's fourth of July I think a lot of folks are out partying - not reading emails! I'm sure someone will get to John as soon as they read the post!! What a drag for him in the meantime!!

There's no way he can hook up the master using baling wire or anything? Just to rig it until he gets where he can fix it?

That's what I asked him originally; hose clamps, fishing line, epoxy, chewing gun - he's tried everything available and so far no luck. I'm sure he'll get it running - got his family with him - Thanks for the club posting - dad

I also wrote to a friend of mine in Arizona- who is from Bishop and has family there still. If she checks her email today she'll get back to me - hopefully with a contact for him.

If he knows how the change gears without using the clutch he can at least drive it. Have personally driven a couple of vehicles many miles with no clutch.
Here is what I have done that worked for me. Place it in neutral and start the engine and let it run for a minute or two and switch it off. If the starter will not crank even with the useless clutch pedal depressed he may have to look under the dash and jumper the wires on the clutch switch.
Now place the tranni in first and start the engine. Its a bit hard on the starter, but if he has it pointed in the right direction, he is good to go. He will have to look way ahead to judge when to can gear down in traffic. This may at least get him home or somewhere where he can buy parts.
Don't know on your son's truck, but think that some clutch systems require purchasing the master cylinder and the slave cylinder as a unit.
Good luck.

He was thinking of doing that that; the only problem is that he's pulling a 35 foot trailer and has a lot of small towns to go through (in other words, speed traps). I asked him and you are correct - it comes as a complete system; actually not a bad idea even though the expense does go up - Thanks -

If it is a 4wd, it would be worth to try to put 4lo on or mod it to 2lo. Compounded to the low first gear he could get his truck started and drove it to somewhere.
