2002 auto tranny trouble

my truck seemed to have lost overdrive, and doesnt want to shift out of 2nd to third. I was by a dealer, (I dont trust), and they said tranny is shot. I drove home and for a mile it seemed allright. Fluid looks same as always, not bright red, but clear. The three key trick revealed no codes. Truck has 71,000 miles (Just out of warranty). I plan to do apps reset, clean battery, change fluid, adust bands. Are there any suggestions for what sensors to replace. Thanks for your help. rick

continued

I meant to say that on the drive home (10 miles) for 1 mile it did allright, for 2 miles it went to 3rd, and the rest was in 2nd.

If it stays(*EDIT*should say- If it STARTS) in 2nd and 3rd then I would change your governor pressure sensor and solenoid. mine did the Starts in 2nd and 3rd thing, I paid to have my trans rebuilt and then found out later after I installed it that I had the same problem as before. The problem was the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. Mine never threw any codes for those sensors either

So if I knew what you know now then I would only have spent $125.00 for parts instead of rebuilding a whole trans that was fine to begin with

*Edit* I misread the post the first time

Breakaway & Reverse are fine? No excessive stall speeds?

I don't think adjusting the bands or changing the filter/fluid will fix it, but try the apps reset... what happens when you switch in & out of OverDrive while in Direct? How high are your RPMs getting while unsuccessfully making the 2-3 shift?

if by stall you mean the rpms the shift happens, it is high if at all. I dont know what breakaway means. I found the gov press. sensor, and solenoid, and overdrive solenoid locally for 240 for all. I will buy them and install tomorrow. it doesnt want to go to 3rd at all if the od is active. If you turn od off it may shift to 3rd, but the rpms get high if you are on the accelerator much.

I installed gov. press. solenoid, and transducer. 6 qts valvoline atf, and performed apps reset. It runs like a charm, here was hardly anything on the magnet too!

- just curious, did you call the ******* - err, Dealer and explain to him that his $4K solution was superceded with your $200-ish fix?
