06 dodge A/C problem

a buddy was useing my truck the other day and he was bring it back and he said the a/c quit blowing cold. so i looked at it no freon leaks anywhere, still has froen in it, the a/c comes on and off when you push the button.

so i looked into it a little more and i checked for power at the compressor with the a/c button on and it has power checked for a grond and it has a ground???????

so i tryed jumping the pressure swicth still nothing.

iam and thinking that it is the a/c coil on the compressor.

by the way truck only has 46,xxx miles on it cant believe it quit already

thanks james

You can check the resistance of the coil, I don;t have the numbers handy but you may want to inspect the short wire that goes into the coil. If it's flattened in one spot it's probably broken internally; seen this may times, just cut it there and install an inline crimp.

I couldn't find it and in the shop manual they want a current draw check done. But if you check for a resistance to ground and there is none (as we suspect) then the coil is open. I would just unplug the clutch and feed 12 volts directly to it to double check. You should see and hear it engage. As I said previously look for a flattened spot on the clutch wire as that would be a simple fix.

Yes, unless there is a broken wire leading to the coil itself.

The coil can be changed without discharging the AC system but it's easier if the compressor is unmounted leaving the lines attached. As special tools are needed I would let a shop do it unless you have them. Check the coil before mounting it all back up.
