Wink When is a Dodge not a Dodge...?

When it's a Bullet...

http://www.sterlingtrucks.com/SterlingBullet/

Perhaps we should open up a Sterling side of this forum, looks like we have a "GMC-like twin" on the block...

Mabey I'm missing something (don't see how it looks like a GM) but it looks like a Dodge, not crazy about the "Sterling" on the grill.

they are 4500 and 5500 class trucks with GVWR in the 19,000lbs range and GCVW of 26,000, oh and the aisan 6spd auto instead of the 68rfe the dodges are using.

I looked at those at the mid america trucking show. the badging then said dodge on them. those 4500/5500 trucks are pretty well built. I think they should have built them years ago. ford has had the 450/550 superduty out for years. dodge missed out on that market I think.

No ford sold it off a few years ago. I was told that it was to clear up floor space for the production of the excursion.

You sure those weren't just the Dodge version.

These trucks are being dual badged with a facade change for Sterling. I don't believe there is any functional difference between a Dodge Ram 4500/5500 and the Sterling Bullet.

IMO, the main reason for offering the Sterling Bullet is for fleet purposes(say a municipality/business runs all Sterling trucks in their Class 6 and above, now they can run Sterling trucks in their Class 4 and 5 trucks(without going with a cab-over)... wrecker services would be another good example... their big roll-backs are all Sterling cabs, now they can run smaller roll-backs in Sterling and only deal with one service department and one dealership. I also believe Sterling offers 24/7 service whereas Dodge does not.

And Sterling is a part of Diamler Chrysler.

Nope, the 2500 and 3500 pickups use the 68RFE built in house at DC while the 3500 - 5500 cab and chassis trucks use the Aisin built auto with the PTO capability.

I just hope they don't have the same experience with the 68RFE that the 5 speed autos are having. They won't take much added power at all in the Hemi trucks with out falling apart and they are alot alike internally. The Aisin seems to be a much better built medium duty transmission even though it sells for around 1890.00 more than the 68RFE tranny.

The point was...Chevy and GMC have been selling nearly identical trucks for decades, and have made money doing it. Don't read too much into what I said, just that it's a GMC-type clone of what was a Chevy (but in this case Dodge) original. It's not going to take much for an observant customer to realize that it's the same truck as the Dodge 4500 & 5500, just with Cummins only power and avaliable from Sterling dealers, who deal with a much different type of clientle.

I personally think it's a great idea, and will help stave off some of the domance in this area the our competiters have.
