Two weeks ago my 2001 started cutting out under load. She would idle fine, but anything over 1/4 throttle would cut out. Figured that since it was only nine months ago I changed the lift pump out, it was bad... (sarcasm) Went out and got the fass setup and installed it. Ran good for 2 hours, same symptoms with some white smoke.. Removed hypertech from truck ran good for awhile and same thing,only now it cuts out every once in awhile at idle too. I got an 0370 code which the guys who want to sell me a vp say is a bad pump....code has something to do with pump timing / speed sensor....Should i by a vp or what??? thanks..

 

The 370 code lets you know the timing sensor is not communicating with the pump. The trouble can be that the VP44 is shot and unable to shift the timing plate, and that is the usual case; or it can be the crankshaft position sensor is dirty or malfunctioning, next most often cause; or it can be the ECM is fried, which only happens to guys that are sloppy and disconnect the pump harness or the ECM with the batteries connected, or use power washers on the engine.

 

Thanks for the reply, is there a way to test the crankshaft position sensor? since i havent messed with the pump or the ecm it could be this...
