WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
One other comment, a good friend father was taking new Fords for test drives, he said the older 7.3 seem much stronger than the new 6.0. He is an old ford guy!

KC
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Did yall see that Western Diesel was one of the prime sponsors of this test? I don't care how strong the Ford is, I'd take the Cummins anyday. Yall also notice that the Dodge really started to shine on the loaded 7% grade. Leaving the GMC behind and running dang near even with the Ferd.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Something just doesn't seem right with that test. I did note however that the Dodge did better loaded than it did unloaded and I didn't notice much of a drop in the times. I think somethings going on.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Its hard to say it boys, but our truck lost. I went from a ferd to a ISB and I love it. I like getting 18 mpg and having my max torque at 1400rpm's. I love the sound of my cummins. The V8's were made for upper rpm horsepower and not much low end torque. The main reason I bought my dodge was that I knew I would get at least 250,000 miles out of it. You dont want to run high rpm's all day cause your motor will wear out like a gasser. We know we have a better motor. Does it really matter that we lost on speed. If I wanted speed I would have bought the V10 and got 6 mpg. I wanted reliability and longitevity.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I think I could give that new powerstroke a run for its money. I may not beat it but the smoke after wards from my clutch and stacks would be a sight. You could here my centerforce screaming over the engine. ;D I still say with a little bombing a cummins could wipe a Pjokes Butt and still have room to wipe its nose after wards from all the crying the owner does.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
But, if you do a little bombing to beat the lil V8, he can probably do some modding and smoke ya. Next thing you will be upping one and so on. All im saying is that talk to the ferd guy in 5 years and tell me how shes running. I had a 97 psd and at 26k miles i bent 3 pushrods. Ferd warranteed these as well as the other 13 and did a valve job. 18 months later and about 26k miles, it happened at 52k miles same exact thing happened and i knew it. Called ferd and had it towed. They charged me 3 hours of investigating to find out what the noise was. The service manager left a message on my phone and asked me if i knew that there was a large noise coming from the intake. No sh t huh. All in all i had to shell out 750 bucks to have it fixed and they could not find any reason why it did it. Thats why I went with reliability. I used to think the 7.3 was the bomb, but when you drive the sixer it has more low end torque.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
But I can say for sure that a little Six banger can get more HP than a pstroke and handel it longer too.
but I know what you mean.
Aaron
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Im still kinda a ferd guy having one yet for play, but I know of a few psd's that can run with the best. I think they all can be modded but the dodge can get more results cheaper. Like I said before, there is more to a motor than just hp and tq, fuel economy is about 4 mpg better on my dodge than ferd, and the reliability is not yet determined, but with 8200 miles since july, not a problem yet. The way I look at it is that if semis used small block V8's in them, it would be a different story. Almost all heavy equipment has I-6's and there is a reason. They dont need huge rpm's to make power and they run much longer between overhauls. If all your going to buy diesels on is hp and tq, I would buy a psd in a heartbeat. Its faster.(Im talking stock trucks compared to stock trucks). But if you know diesels you will stick with a motor that is tried and true.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
The new PSD has more horse power and a little more torque but, its towing rating is a ton less? WHY?
Why have the power when the auto maker doesn't want you to use it!

KC
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Something else on the truck isn't up to the task. The max GCWR on a Ford 1-ton is 20,000. Where ours is 23,000. So something on their truck is not as heavy duty as our's. Could be the springs, axle's, brake's, cooling, frame, who know's, but somewhere on that truck some piece is weaker than ours. The GCWR can only be as high as the weakest component. :

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I picked dodge for a reason, the motor and having a solid front end. If ford would have a cummins in their 3/4 and 1 ton models i would be driving a ford. They have a better crew cab too. But, i think that the dodge frame is stronger. That is what they claimed in the magazines and commercials. They can pull more because of this. The axles are almost identical. But my towing rating is 12,5k and i have pulled 16k before with the cummins. Did fine. But i also pulled the same load with the psd and it pulled it fine as well. But not as good as the cummins. Weight ratings dont mean crap. My dodge is rated for 2400 in the bed. I have put on 5200 on the back with the bump stops about an inch from hitting. Like i said, ratings dont mean crap.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I must admit there was a time when I figured Ferd was the best. When my dad got his '95 PSD I was just starting to drive and I felt like a king in this thing. Never drove a Cummins until about 3 years ago when my friend lent me his truck to go pick up our new trailer. When I first got in it, it felt like the cab was more comfortable than the F450. The thing was a lot quieter inside, yet it was 4 years older. When I pulled out of the yard, I was blown away by how the thing took off ;D. Those first few seconds were all it took to convince me to get a Dodge!!! My brother is still a big F*%d fan, and he told me to try another fellow's brand new PSD with the 6 speed. When I got back he was kinda shocked to see me with a frown on my face... I told him that it still doesn't come close to my friend's Dodge that's 11 or more years older. Also, I had the front end in my truck go (300000 on gravel roads mostly) so I was forced to drive my old geezer's F450 to Alberta for work, and I wasn't used to reving a diesel to thirty some odd hundred RPM just to make it go... I was sure happy to get my truck back. If I ever were to look at a Furd P/U again it would have to have a Cummins in it, but I think I'd still drive a DODGE!!!
