<chuckle> I love these tests. I know the 6L Powerstroke is going to be a pretty strong powerplant, but I notice they didn't bother testing a Dodge with an auto. And the manual test was performed on a Dodge with 4.10s, instead of 3.73s. Unless they were pulling some real weight, the 4.10s would probably add 1 second to the 1/4 mile time.

I'd like to know why they did the test with five trucks...the auto in the Dodge may not have done as great as the other...but who knows. Thats the only part I think was skewed on the test...testing like that takes a lot of effort and will take a lot of scutiny from us arm chair experts.
<br><br>I want to assist in some of this testing.

I just responded on the other post about this article. I think the 4.10 on the Dodge would account for being slower on the drag strip. As for that 4.10? I think that's where the Dodge will shine on the hill climb. I can't wait to read the rest when it comes out.<br>-SFB

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I think the 410 would give the Dodge a better launch and quicker acceleration and maybe thats why they got the Dodge that way...to compensate for the weight difference?<br>But what do I know. ???

Can I enter my "old, broke down" 182,000 mile, 96'<br>12 valve in the next "test" www.pickuptruck.com does??<br>I know it's not a 2003, but my truck is a diesel!!<br><br>I know one thing.........I'll bet that 2003 Ford PSD <br>with the new 6.0 V-8 Diesel and the new tranny<br>won't pass me on any hill pulling a trailer.

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
yeah, it looks like ford will have a great combination..haven't heard anything bad yet. a guy at one of the psd mettings said that the fuel lines haven't changed since the current PSD. have any of you seriously taken a look at ford trucks that are outfitted with tons of options? they have a bunch of smart things that you wont find in the dodges or gm's (well, maybe the dodges now..).<br><br>Tom

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I did some calculations with the 1/4 mile speeds and weights, solo and with the 12,100 lb trailer, to get engine flywheel HP. The Duramax averaged 271 HP for the 4 runs, the Powerstroke 318 HP for the 4 runs, and the Cummins calculated 239 and 260 HP for the solo and trailer runs, respectively. <br><br>The 271 and 318 crankshaft HP values for the Duramax and Powerstroke engines appear reasonable. The 240-260 crankshaft HP for the Cummins does not appear to be the HO engine (305 HP). The numbers look like they tested a 6 speed SO combination (250 HP). Even though the article stated a 6 speed HO, did the testers know there are 6 speed SO variants available? Did they test a California, Maine rig? <br><br>If you put 305 HP into the 1/4 mile equations you get 79.0 and 58.0 mph for the solo and trailer 1/4 mile runs instead of the 72.8 and 55.0 mph runs reported. <br><br>In any event, the HO Cummins was not running right or they actually tested a SO Cummins.<br><br>

That's why I usually don't pay any attention to these tests because it depends on who is sponsoring the test and they usually do not give you all the details. I've seen first hand what that little six will do.

Remeber also the Dodge with the "smaller" cab weighed in at almost 1,000lbs more than the compitition. And remember where the new 6.0 makes it's power. 325 hp at 3300RPM's
and 560 lb-ft at 2000RPM's
How often do you guy's run 3300 Rpm's. I know I don't to often. And as I said on a GM site, I don't care if the new Ford will run the 1/4 one second quicker than my poor ol 6banger when I've got $100,000 worth of trailer and horses behind my truck. I'm more worried about the 60-0 time. And having drove all 3 of the big 3's 1-ton offerings I can safely say the Dodge will whip em when it comes to stoping, ride quality, handling the load, and fuel milage.
