WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I saw a Ford Commercial last night, a ford psd and a duramax on a drag stip pulling a horse trailer (goosneck) the ford wins the race. Like the others have said, I did not buy my truck to race. My father has a friend that owns a 99 Dodge and pulls a 36 foot alpha trailor around down south and back every year and both my parents have gone with them, dad say's the Dodge pulls that large trailor with our any problems, his ford PSD can't pull it that trailer as easy as the dodge!<br><br>KC
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I was also wondering why the best times weren't used :
That seems odd. Like was said earlier, you could have a real fast run and then some decent runs. I still would like to see a battle to the death test. Last diesel running wins.

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
one of the other things that i would have done in this test is i would not have relied on the manufacter to send me a test truck<br><br>i would have gone to a ford,dc, and gm dealership and tested what they was selling the public<br><br>i have worked in manufacturing enough to know that when something is going to be shipped to be the standard or show piece that you do everything to make sure it is perfect<br><br>my concern is was these trucks tweeked to be max power just to make them look good or can we expect this same kind of power from a truck on the dealer lot ??? ???
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I just have a real hard time believing everything was cosher with this test. I have spent many hours in a Dmax/6-speed and in an HO cummer with 4.10's and I'll tell you right now that the Cummer will whip that DMAX as far as acceleration.(with manuals)
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Took a trip down the Washington and Oregon coasts this October. From what I saw in the state parks the current RV tow vehicle of choice is the F350 SRW PSD and now we know one reason why. This thing is a hit and I bet GM will have a SRW one ton before long. Hats of to Ford, hopefully they have finally given DC the kick in the *** they need to build a good automatic transmission for the HO. It's taken far too long.
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Wilber1,<br><br>Here! Here! The lack of a real crew cab, and an adaquate automatic that will handle 305 HP with room for up grades might be the only things that keep me from trying the CTD. I'm still leary of Chrysler based on long ago experiences, but I might be coming around.<br><br>It's just that my experience with the CTD (1998 Model with Auto) and the DMax conviences me that the power is with the Max at this time, at least in stock configuration, with auto.<br><br>Regards,<br><br>Bill
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
If you have questions about the tests, go to the Pickup Truck web page and the writter is listed with a e-mail link to him. I asked if it was a California HO. He said they told dodge what they were going to do and Dodge sent them a vehicle. Sounded like by his response he was not sure. <br><br>I also asked about the weight issue between the Dodge and the other brands. He said he always found dodges to be heavier.?? <br><br>So you guys get after him. Post some of the answers. He got back to me the next day via e-mail. <br><br>Dave
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I bet that truck did have Cal. emissions. That would explain a lot. I just don't see how a regular HO with more power and lower gears than a DMAX gets beat by one. I do here that the guy who did that comparison is a die hard Dmax guy :

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Hey Luke,They probably got used to the v-8's with the ZF tranny and having to rev them to the top to get power.Maybe they just don't know how to make the Cummins work

Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
Guys,<br><br>I dyno'd an 03 QC 3500 DRW HO 6 spd Saturday. I was hoping to see higher HP numbers but it repeated 240hp. What was real disapointing was the 440 TQ number. That number is less than what I got from a 250hp PSD Excursion which recorded a 450 TQ number.<br><br>I agree in the next test, I want to see each truck approach a hill at speed and see who maintains it the best. <br><br>I own two Dodge rams with Cummins and I do believe it to be the best engine of the bunch... but Dodge needs to get aggressive in this market if they want to play in it, IMO. Dodge needs a real crew cab, about 350hp and 600 tq. We all know it is capable, so why not?
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I saw a thread over on the TDR where they dynoed' the<br>new 2003 Ford 6.0 Litre PSD with the "TorqShift Automatic"<br>and according to the guys that were there that truck only<br>had 230 H.P. at the rear wheels!!! It is rated @ 325 H.P.<br>at the flywheel so they are definitely losing alot of power<br>through the drivetrain!<br><br>This dyno test was run up in Washington State. <br><br>--------<br>John_P
Re:WOW - Ford has really upped the ante here
I continue to hear alot of bad things about the new PSD from die hard Ford guys I work with! There info is coming from dealers and proving ground info! Also the CRVW is only 20000, dodge 23000. New truck with more power but less towing carring capabity? What is up with that?<br><br>KC
