Wow! Blockbuster reports from Ford...

I had reported this here before, but here's some more info to lend creedence to the rumor:

From today's Autotech Daily:

Ford Motor Co. plans to introduce a 6.2-liter V-8 and new gasoline and diesel V-6 engines beginning in 2007, reports Automotive News. A new version of the automaker’s Powerstroke V-8 diesel also is in the works.........................
.....................The new V-6 diesel likely will be supplied by Cummins Inc. It is expected to be used in the Expedition, F-150 and possibly the Navigator sometime after 2007. A new version of the 6.0-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel used in Super Duty pickups also is in the works. The current V-8 is supplied by Navistar, but this may change due to recent problems between the two companies.

A guy at chevy told me that they were supposed to use a Deere but couldn't make a frame strong enough to either hold the engine, or contain the torque of it.

JD, Cat and Cummins were all in the running when Dodge decided to put a diesel in a pickup. Cummins was the only one who could make it light enough for Dodge's specs.

Cummins and Dodge have been together since the 60's. A TDR mag article filled that in. The B series engine was around before the Dodge truck needed an engine.

Cummins is not exclusive to Dodge except for the B series. Ford with the Cummins would only exagerate the old rumour of Ford owning Cummins

As far as torque, a V-6 isn't gonna be a torque monster like and I 6. Just simple physics there.

Interesting none the less.

None that I'm aware of, but stay tuned. Because of lead times in the auto industry, I'm betting something will be announced soon.
