Dan Rather reports on Ford motor company

Any one catch this report today on HD NET channel on Direct TV. Dan Rather would ask the new CEO of Ford direct questions and the guy would reword his question without answering it. I really don't have anything against Fords but I have a huge problem with lack of leadership. The report basically was explaining Fords slow gradual downward slide with thousands of Americans loosing their jobs at their plants that are shutting down. And new plants opening up in Mexico with average pay b/w 2-4 dollars an hour.

I know we are all biased about our Dodge trucks. However without other trucks to compare them to how would we know that Dodge is the best. I really feel for all of those americans loosing their jobs.

Anyone with more knowledge on this feel free to enlighten me on world economics/big business economics.

One thing not mentioned was the profits that have been made by Ford motor company over the last 60 years. Without any knowledge of big business econnomics I will say that it seems that Ford like so many other companies continues to want more profit for less pay.

it breaks my heart whenever i hear about our autoworkers loosing their jobs to mexico[thank you NAFTA] big busineses are trying to kill labor unions that protect the middle class wages and hold the line on wages and standard of living, look at the airlines wage and benefit concessions from the workers and million dollar bonuses to the executives for cutting costs by laying off labor, can you see where we are heading!!!, no more middle class, wealthy and working class.
WATCH WHO YOU VOTE FOR COME ELECTION TIME!!!!

With a change in party potentially coming up,nothing will be different but your taxes. The Dems. have already told us to expect a $500 billion tax increase which will net us nil. That comes out to $2300 a year for a middle income family of four. The black hole of beauracracy will just gobble it up. My wife and I are govt. employees who give the taxpayer their money's worth, but I wish we could say the same for our co-workers. We are registered Independents. Should have posted this in another forum. My apologies.

I'll go ahead and be the jerk on this one.... But seriously you need to think of a new line of work if you are getting outbid by a minimal $20 an hour.

Sorry, I'll take the side of Ford here. They aint hand built mercedes benzes. Look at the quality unions gave us from the 70's up into the 90's when we finally quit using US and Canadian Labor as much.

I vote anti union everytime. Most labor unions are just not the american way, more like the Chavez way. Some unions can have their place though, just not the way auto unions do business. It doesn't work and has proven itself as such.

Big executives are like sports stars, they get the salary because they can demand it. And it isn't easy money when you're sitting there trying to save jobs and those people are biting the hand that feeds them.

Don't fool yourself into voting for a pie in the sky. Look how great our economy is... you are willing to vote that out?

Another anti-union voter here and an Independent also. Part of the reason the companies are going to overseas markets is to get away from the Unions that seem to have no clue how much they cost American business. Just one grievence trial here at work over something that is already in the Union handbook as not being allowed yet we still have to go to court over it is over 30,000.00 dollars of wasted money that could have went into improving the plant or buying new equipment. Who says organized crime has decreased.

I agree with you about the middle class being squeezed to a point. However, I believe the big unions have "outlived" their usefulness. Yes at one time they had the right goals, now it's just like anything else - it's all about the money and keeping their non-income producing jobs. Make sure you give credit where credit is due when you speak of NAFTA - thank you Pres. Clinton!! And don't forget, this year we'll be having the Mexican truck pilot program starting which will allow Mexican truckers access to our highways costing American truckers their jobs, which is also part of NAFTA - again, thank you Pres. Clinton.
