Had 4wd's all my driving years, wouldn't have it any other way, use mine for duck and goose hunting.

If you ever pull a trailer on soft ground or gravel and have not upgraded to a decent tire, you will love having 4wd.

1.) Because I wanted to........ And when you need it, you need it! Also, at least with the CTD, the 4X4 is not nearly the mileage penalty it was with the gasser.

2.) 20-30 times a year.

Drive that 2WD over Stevens Pass on compact snow and ice and you'll be wishing you could compensate for your lack of traction and control. Flatlanders, sheesh.

Great posts!
Thanks Peoples

The main reason for me buying a 4X4 is that it allows me to do my job. It's a tool that I can not be without.
Our company's mechanics and lube trucks would be parked 2 miles back where the pavement ends.
So.....my truck makes me big bucks.

The project I just started covers 26,000 acres. It will take me about 5-6 weeks to complete. Almost all of it requires 4Low...

I bought a 4X4 for the same reason as the other 4X4's I've had. I go out the desert several times a month during the winter for camping and riding quads and bikes in the sand. We always camp in the soft sand. 4 wheel drive is a must. When someone in our group doesn't have a 4X4, one of us has to pull him out. I personally don't like being stuck.............
During the summer months, I still like to camp in out-of-the-way places, so a 4x4 is just nice to have.
So I'd guestimate that my truck is in 4 wheel drive about 75 to 100 days a year.

Bought my truck to haul my Jeep around, saw too many spinning wheels puling out of the campsite when its time to get back home to reality. Plus, having been a "Jeep only" guy for so long 2WD just sounded "wrong"...

Once! To break it in....I've had the truck for about a month....my first 150mile trip will be in 10 days hauling a 22" loaded up with my camping gear, tools, and my XJ.

ok, my last truck was a dodge 1500 regular cab, with the 4.7 v8. I could back down in the ditch out front and load my 4 wheeler and pull right out. I could go through alomost anything and have no problems. When i back my new truck, down in that same ditch , it will not budge an inch in 2 wheel drive, The engine is just to heavy and the bed is to light. I would be scared to even think about having a 2 wheel drive. I seem to use my 4 wheel drive at least once a month.

Here is the old truck, did very well in 2x4

Here is my MAJOR UPGRADE.

We live on top of a mountain and have a 1/4 mile steep and winding hill to climb to get to our house. Without a 4WD in wintertime during snow and ice I can forget about getting to the house.

I live in Buffalo. When I first put my truck on the road I didn't have the front driveshaft in. I have never seen a more useless truck in 2WD. Trying to get out of the driveway I'd put it in gear, let off the brakes and I could get out and just watch it sit there and spin. I need my 4x4 because I have to drive offroad to dump debris from my jobs and I need to be able to get out.

because i manage to get stuck with this tank easily with 4x4... 2wd is useless where i live when your an avid outdoorsmen............try pulling a six place snowmobile trailor through a foot of snow..... "hardly manage in 4x4". well i suppose for a city man 2wd may do but some of them get squirly and head out into the styx.......pulled a few of them out with the help of my 4 wheel drive
