Why'd ya buy a 4X4?
Lots of reasons.
The biggest of which is I like the stance of the trucks. (no lifts needed) They just look better standing up tall and proud over the 4x2 trucks and cars.
Whatever the cost difference over a 4x2 truck, you can always recoup that money back when you sell it. 4x4's sell easier later and will always be worth "that" much more....however much that was when new over a 4x2.
And, when you actually do need it.........it is available to get you out of slick situation or to pull somebody else out. Boat ramps and pulling an RV thru sand or slick wet grass covered in dew. Snow!!!!! also, 4x4 launches if you are into drag racing or traction for sled pulling!
It's also easier to get under the truck and service it when it needed, for oil changes, transmission service etc.
I may go a couple of months and not even engage my 4x4...and then other times I may use it several times in a week.
I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER TRUCK THAT IS NOT A 4x4!!!

Use my 4x4 about 20+ times a year not including winter time.

Because these trucks routinely get stuck in grass with dew on it.
Pulling trailers out of soft spots, (my yard)
Boat ramps (as Chris mentioned)
The occasional snow
Because real trucks are 4 wheel drive.

1. I lived in Michigan......owning at least 1 4x4 should be a requirement.....especially in winter. most of the previously listed reasons. never will buy a 2wd DD again.
2. i would say 6 times since i bought it. one of which was to drive the truck home in a blizzard the day i bought it.

When I was looking for a diesel I knew that it had to a 4x4 because of the weight of the engine. my brother had a 2x4 powerstroke and any time the front end got off the pavement he would get stuck. I have a f150 4x4 and Every truck I own, from now on will be a 4x4.
1. Why? Because I love to hunt and go camping and while I dont need 4wd all the time I do prefer to have it just in case. I am one of those that will put it in 4wd when off road anytime as I believe it is too late when you are already deep in the ****. An old habit from manual hubs as a kid on farm even with auto engage now from a dash.
2. How often? During hunting season for deer (Aug through Dec nonstop here) it is in 4wd at least 4 times a week. Add a few more times for turkey hunting and about a dozen more times for going up in mountains camping. then the trips to shooting range or scouting during summer on timber company property.Jan through Mar is almost non existent though...but april through june is likely once a month......august through end of december is couple times a week.
PLUS.....after spinning tires on truck in 2wd on dads driveway and wet grass because of weight of front end and the skinny stock tires she came with....**** glad I have 4wd. Plus putting larger tires made a phenomenal difference in her traction and ability to stay unstuck in normal conditions.
