Namely i still think they have the best Cupholders in the buisness, and I think the ford interior styling always looked cheap as can be. Personal opinion but I like the whole truck (most of it anyway). My kids are brainwashed to, they knew by the time they were 5 that there grandpa (on the wifes side of course) must not be very smart for driving a ford. "Why does grandpa want to breakdown". Maybe I should layoff tha Mopar pressure on my youngins a little bit. At least till they are 6.
1) I would own a F250 it it had a Cummins (now that I have had a chance to own both).
2)About the cupholders: I used to work For Lear Corp., the company who supplies most of the Automotive industry's interiors. The 1984 Dodge Caravan (I think, maybe off by a few years) was the FIRST production vehicle to even have a cupholder.
3) Never too early to instill brand loyalty in the little ones (and betrayal when needed), I've never read as many articals and nagative reviews of one particular engine as I have with the 6.0 the past year. It's a tough one, Ford is in quite a pickle.

I will say that DC is LUCKY (and I guess smart in a way) to have the Cummins contract. Everyone I run into that knows anything about trucks or Diesel has positive comments about my truck.
Makes me proud.

That is why i no longer own my 03 6.uhoh Ford, it was a POS, got smart and bought a new 06 cummins. I was brand loyal too, but it can only go so far when they try to weasel their way out of warranty work and won't stand behind their POS' engines to begin with. Hope this one turns out to be alot better than my ferd

I even make the wife buy dodge and ive already given tha 3 year old tha speach "if you want daddy to help you work on your car/truck/jeep then it better be a dodge." The 05 Durango we bought runs great (love tha hemi motor) and so did all the other ones ive had. I guess when my grandpa gave me that 54' pickup he started something for me. But then again i have had excepsional luck with them. As soon as the new Challenger comes out it will be time to beg and plead with the wife. It would be great to have a car and a truck that smokes 5.slows.

Whoa, just noticed this thread. I'm gonna move it into the General Diesel forum.

As for Ford, I had 2 F-150s prior to my Ram and they both had the 300 I-6, great motors. I always liked the I6 and I loved the sound of the Cummins so I got one. The F150s were good to me, but I like my Ram better.

I see a lot of tallboy Fords 4x4s running around town that seems to be the rig of choice for the younger crowd .

Older crowd Dodge or Chevy

I was leary of dodge from a lemon jeep cherokee I owned before ( great motor 4.0 in line 6) the rest of it was junk.

A couple guys I do work for are Dodge cummins die hards and had nothing but good things to say .One of their work trucks has over 300,000 miles on it , Its a 12v. I did a little research and the cummins has alot less moving parts than the ford or chevy. SO i took the Plunge

Anyways the first truck i ever owned was a chevy with a 292 straight six, Great truck .

1998.5 4x4 5spd 24v SO FAR SO GOOD.

Why I own A Cummins.

Simple

I know it will start every day as it has done since new

I know at the end of the day it will get home without the aid of a tow truck.

That should be enough of a reason to buy one.

My father-in law just bought a new Chevy gasser and the only thing I like about it more than my truck is the seats(and it's paid for ).

Hehe I love this quote. I am not yet able to afford a Cummins powered Ram, but I punch a clock 5 days a week at Cummins (Power Products Division to be precise). Had to print this one off and send it to my general manager.

As for the reply about the Cummins mechanic with the PSD...thats the first time I've heard of anyone working for "the big blue C" even consider it. We have 12+ mechanics in our service department...who regularly discuss (at great lengths normally..) the shortfalls of the PS 6.0.

Definately makes me feel good working for a leader after reading this thread.

i noticed you said the ford is the brand for the younger crowd. well i beg the differ. i'm 18 yrs old and own a cummins. i was born and raised dodge all the way. hell i even like the gassers but the cummins is really over the top. they are great trucks and i believe in them very much. great thread.
hooray for cummins i know they're great trucks and i will even be attending college after high school to become a diesel technician and then i hope to work on them all of the time.

"three cheers for the big blue C who has been so good to me (and you) oh yes three cheers for the big, the mighty, and the blue."

I think too that ford seems to be popular among people my age (21). I have several friends who own superduties or f150's and they give me hall about owning my 02 cummins and say its a POS. I honestly looked at getting a ford when i got this truck a yr ago. I had a 95 2500 gasser ram and was looking for a diesel and thought about getting an 02 or early 03 7.3 psd but there were alot of things that scared me away from buying a ford. The price compared to a dodge, problems with service dept's at some of the dealers, and the problems with some of the trannies. One friend of mine has an 05 f250 and he's on his 2nd transmission in less than a yr and another friend has had one already rebuilt in his 04 an his rebuilt one acts up all the time while driving. Both trucks have under 40000 mile too. I'm just glad to own my very reliable dodge/cummins truck.

I have a friend who bought a '99 F-350 PS. Within 3 or 4 years of buying it, he has had to deal with: rusted power steering lines; rusted oil pan; rusted through rear diff cover; one frozen front brake caliper; a problem with the frnt axle housing (can't remember the exact problem, but it had to be replaced); new radiator; and the Ford dealer idiots filled the crankcase with gear oil !!!! during an oil change; and several other issues. He still claims its a good truck. And all of that with less than 40,000 miles on it! (he only drives the truck part of the year). I haven't had that many problems with my 245K mile Ram. And like Geiko, I'm not brand loyal...as long as it has a 12v Cummins, I'm happy...mine just happens to be in a Ram. When the Ram wears out, if the motor is still running, I'll probably swap it into something else.

My dad, God rest his soul, had 2 trucks in his lifetime and both were Fords. They had the 300 6 cylinder in them and he really loved that motor. Didn't tow anything but did carry an 8 foot camper for years.

His '69 was made out of real steel. I remember when he bought the '78 thinking how thin and flimsy the sheet metal seemed.

Good trucks for him. He would go absolutely nuts over my '05 CTD, probably want to keep it at his house. Wish we could take just one more ride together.
